String Theories

…is an old-school online journal and the latest iteration of an idea that’s chased me for decades, ever since I, already a music lover and player of stringed instruments, learned that some cosmologists believe the universe is composed, at its most fundamental level, of infinitesimal strings vibrating in multiple dimensions. Sounded good to me. My String Theory thing has been a blog, a video/documentary production company, a live show, a book idea and now a talk show on WMOT 89.5 FM.

What to expect

My abiding ambition as a writer - and indeed one of my first print commitments - was to be an opinion columnist. That meant something different in 1988 than it does now, but I’ve carried the spirit of that idea all along, kicking out pundit-style pieces for publication here and there as I developed (to my surprise) a living covering music as a beat. But mainly I vented on Facebook. I’ve closed that chapter. I’m writing here now, about music for sure, about politics of course, about ideas in policy and law, and about my personal passions, which include astronomy and space expeditions, open-wheel and sports car racing, baseball and my family. It’s a happy situation here in Nashville, TN, and if you read these pages, you’ll see thoughts and formal essays on all the above.
